  1. Hey,

First of all, I have to say it's kind of difficult to tell something just using one tense. Bu I wil try.

I chose the tale named: "The Letter in Brown Ink"

    SIMPLE PRESENT

There is an old man named William. He walks in his garden when suddenly, a letter falls down in front of him. This letter is written in brown ink. William does'nt know where the letter comes from. The letter says: please help me. I am a girl locked in a room in the top of the white house, but you have to climb the window. If you ask for me at the door, then she will kill me. Please release me. The old man has a bad leg and he uses a stick to walk. But he used to climb the roofs of all houses when he was eighteen years old. At that time, he met a beautiful girl named Valeria, but she has a very jealous sister named Miss Rowsley, who made Valeria marry other man and the old man married other woman. Miss Rowsley lived in that white house all her life. So, the old man waits for his son, John. John reads the letter and starts to climb to the window of the white house to release the little girl, who wrote the letter. But there are bars blocking the window. John gets something to cut the bars. He starts to cut the bars when Miss Rowsley gets in the room and starts to yell thinking the girl was going to marry John. When William hears the yells, he forgets his leg's problem and climbs the house and when Miss Rowsley tries to kill the little girl with a knife, John and his father capture Miss Rowsley. John was going to call the police but the old woman asks for excuses. The girl's name is Sophia. She is Valeria's daughter and she is exactly like his mother. When William sees her, He thinks she is Valeria. But her parents died. So, Miss Rowsley asks Sophia to live with her, but when Sophia arrives, Miss Rowsley locked her. Miss Rowsley died when she tried to escape jumping through the window. Sophia went to Italy to study and married an artist. The letter was written with Sophia's blood.

Miss Rowsley died when she tried to escape jumping through the window. Sophia went to Italy to study and married an artist. The letter was written with Sophia's blood.

I think this is a very good tale, even when it's too short, it has a lot of emotions. The fact that the girl wrote a letter with her own blood is kind of disturbing. But in general, I think this story is really scary.

  3. HI!
    MADAM CROWL’S GHOST.
    SIMPLE PRESENT

I chose this story because I know some cases about ghosts and I think it is interesting to know about this topic.

This story is about a girl who leaves home to go to work. She’s thirteen years old and her job is to help her aunt at Applewale house. Her aunt is a housekeeper there. This is the first time that the girl leaves her mother or her house. She has a long journey. She’s nervous and when she gets Applewale house, she sees a big black and white house. Her aunt is tall and thin and she never smiles. When the girl is into the housekeeper’s room she feels better and she meets another woman sitting by the fire, her name is Mrs. Wyvern and she works there too. Mrs. Wyvern talks about Madam Crowl. She says that Madam Crowl’s 93 years old, she is a difficult old lady. She is in good health, although she’s quite mad and she can’t remember anything. The girl must see her all day long and get foods and drinks for her when Mrs. Crowl asks. The girl doesn’t hear a sound from Mrs. Crowl’s room and she feels nervous. When she get up she looks into Mrs. Crowl’s room and she sees a large bed with curtains all around it. The room is full of candles, she waits a bit, she opens the curtains and she sees Mrs. Crowl, she wears fine clothes, a great white wig and silver shoes. In this moment Mrs. Crowl opens her eyes and she turns to see her and puts her fingers close to her throat and she asks her: why do you say I kill he boy? The girl runs across the room, she cries and some days later Mrs. Wyvern tells to her about madam Crowl’s story. Seventy years ago, Mrs. Crowl gets married and her husband has a son, the boy likes to walk in the woods and one day he goes fishing on the lake, but he never returns, they look for him but they can’t find him, later Mrs. Crowl has a son she doesn’t let him think about the last son but years later her son dies, Mrs. Crowl falls ill and she dies. Some days later the girl sees the Mrs. Crowl’s ghost and she talks with her aunt. All of them, the aunt, the girl and Mrs. Crowl’s grandson find a cupboard and they open it then they find some bones inside it and her aunt decides to send the girl back home. Years later, her aunt tells the girl the rest of the story. The bones belong first son, Madame Crowl shut him away in this cupboard, he dies in the darkness and no one hears him when he asks for help and knocks at the door.

I think this tale is some scary because when we think about how is a ghost and how we feel when we see a ghost may be we feel nervous, I think this a good tale.

  6. THE LETTER IN BROWN INK.
    SIMPLE PRESENT.
This tale was wrote by Edith Nesbit, and it is about William, an old man that walk and he find a strange letter, the author’s letter says that is locked in a room, but he must not ask for the strange person at the front door because could be murdered.
If he wants to help, he has to climb to the window over the roofs. But he isn’t a young man, so he goes and tells it to his son John. Because he remembers that a beautiful girl called Valeria and her older sister Miss Rowsley lived in this house and he was loved of Valeria but she married with another man, in addition Miss Rowsley was nasty and jealous with Valeria.
Now supposedly Miss Rowsley lives alone in her house and in this case, William and John know they must hold to the person that sends the letter.
Later night John goes and climbs at front of the window. In the darkness there is nothing of noisy, William can listen every noises that John Makes. Miss Rowsley could listen to him too.
At the window there are bars, and John starts to break these, when suddenly he looks at inside, there are two people: an old woman (Miss Rowsley) and a younger woman, the older woman holds a candle in a hand and a knife in the other, nevertheless he continuous breaking the bars. She looks angry while the young woman cries because she thinks that she could be murdered. John ends and jumps through the window and William follows him.
While John calls Police, William holds Miss Rowsley, and she tells William that she was loved of him, but he never looked at her.
In the other side, the young girl is Sophia, she tells them that her parents died two years ago and Miss Rowsley is her aunt, who kept and locked her up. William and John realize Sophia is Valeria’s daughter. Finally Miss Rowsley jumped through the window and died.
The history is strange, because the letter was wrote with brown “ink” but actually, it was wrote with the Sophia’s blood.

  7. Hello.

    PRESENT TENSE
    The Letter in Brown Ink
This story takes place in London in 1920.
I walk in my garden when I find an unusual letter, the letter is written in brown ink. The letter is of a woman who needs help, he’s in a room at the top of the house. In the letter the woman tells us that an old woman has her captured a long time ago.
I remember Valeria. Valeria has a nasty sister and she still lives in the white house and the neighbors think she is mad. When my son comes home I tell him about the letter and he think it is a joke but later we decide to rescue the woman.
When the night falls we try climbing up to white house´s roof, John, my son, climbs up to roof and I wait below. John reaches the window on the roof, and he sees something white. Later he comes back with me and tells me there are bars across the window, he goes home looking for something to cut the bars. Then, he climbs up again and he cuts the first bar, but when he works in the second bar, suddenly Miss Rowsley appears, it is very scary, in the right hand she has a candle and in the left hand she has a knife.
In that moment I climb up to the roof and I sees to my beautiful Valeria behind Miss Rowsley but Valeria is still young, she looks like eighteen. Miss Rowsley tries stabbing Valeria but John and I jump on Miss Rowsley, and we hold the old woman by the arms, and she fights like an animal but she cannot escape because John and I are stronger than her.
Valeria tells us about the nasty imprisonment and she tells us that Miss Rowsley is her aunt and that her parents die two years ago.
Miss Rowsley says she loves me and that she does all this for me, later, suddenly, she jumps through the window and she dies.
Later that horrible experience, Sophia sells her aunt’s house and goes to study to Italy. I still have the letter, written with a piece of wood from the window, and the strange ink is Sophia’s blood.
This story is very good; I love it because it has horror moments, drama moments and is a different story.

Finally I think this tale is one of the most interesting of Edgar Allan Poe that I have read, because of the plot and the characters, he always has a good stories.

    PRESENT TENSE:
I chose this story because the name is very striking and at least I read the title I want to read moreover there are a lot of strange and fascinating stories about murders.
This story talks about a murder and it is developing in Piccadilly, London. one day early in the morning on the newspaper say that a man is murderer in his bedroom and someone has cut his throat and there is no information about the murder, a man who works in a bank reads this new and a strange thing happen to him, he is in his bedroom imagine the situation of the murder, later he goes to the window to observe people but he notice two men a lot of different to others. 18. THE TRIAL FOR MURDER-PRESENT TENSE

this story begins in 1865 and it is about a single man, he lives in a flat in Piccadilly London, he reads his morning newspaper, and he reads a news about a murder of a man in his own bedroom so the body dead is in his bed, in that moment the man sees the bedroom of the victim but there are not victim it is like a delusion and then it disappears quickly. It is a situation so strange to the man.
Then he looks down through window and he looks at two men, one chases the other, the first man has an evil face and the second one has a bloodless face (like a ghost), although they go on the street nobody see them. The news is in all the newspapers and everybody read the story but the man is busy in his work so he does not read the newspaper again. Finally several policies catch the murderer and that night the man sees the victim’s ghost in his bedroom, next day he goes to the trial of murderer like a jury with another eleven juries. All of them stay in a large room, and when they sleep the ghost appears again and he approaches to see all the juries. In the second night the man sees the ghost but he does not say anything, because he is the only one who can see.
Next morning all of juries talk about their dreams, the most strange is that each juror has a dream with the murdered man. On fifth day the ghost appears again in the court and when the witnesses say things like “he kills himself”, he approaches them and they automatically change the story version.
On the last day, the juries decide he is guilty and two hours later they return to courtroom and say their decision, so the ghost is happy and he goes because the court do justice and he rests in peace.
I like this story because it is short but so interesting to me, because it is about murderers, ghost, trials and I like these kinds of stories.

  21. THE MAN WITH THE NOSE (SIMPLE PRESENT)
The story was written by Rhoda Broughton and it has three main characters: Elizabeth, the storyteller and The Man with the Nose.
The storyteller and his wife decide where they go a honeymoon; the storyteller doesn’t want to go to the seaside, because he doesn’t like it, and Elizabeth doesn’t want to go to Lake District because she happens something terrible there; on holiday she goes there with her parents, and they go to the theatre because there is a hypnotist, and he wants to hypnotize somebody, then he chooses her.
After it, she begins to feel ill, and she doesn’t remember anything after that, she does all sorts of silly things and she is in a room with red and green curtains, for that reason she hates red and green curtains and this place.
Then, the storyteller and Elizabeth decide go to the River Rhine in Germany.
They begin their honeymoon journey, and they are in Brussels; the long evening becomes night. All Brussels is asleep, and suddenly the storyteller awakes in the darkness, he can just see his wife, and she has a look of terror on her face, and she cries wildly, then, the storyteller asks “Do you have a nightmare?” Elizabeth has seen a terrible man, and she thinks that he is hiding in the wardrobe, but the storyteller says “the door is locked”, and his wife says “he has a very large nose, and he has evil black eyes, he is like the hypnotist”. Elizabeth shakes. She says “he orders me to come to him with his eyes”, and I feel myself going towards him”, and then she screams and the storyteller wakes up.
After they sail down the Rhine, and it starts to rain and the rain becomes a storm, and Morris brings an umbrella, and finally they reach their hotel and two or three men are standing at the door, then Elizabeth screams, her facer is white for terror, she sees the man, and she falls; after about one hour she wakes, and in the morning she asks “Where is he?” and nobody knows where he is, he leaves early in the morning.
Two weeks passes and they are in Lucerne, the storyteller says that his uncle is very close to death, and he must go, because his uncle leaves him his money, but Elizabeth doesn’t want it.
After, the storyteller is in Lucerne again, and he wants to see his wife, but she is not in the hotel, and the waiter says that a gentleman comes to the hotel and she leaves with him; the storyteller asks “What does he look like, this man?”, and the waiter answers “He is very tall and dark, with a large nose and strange eyes”, the storyteller feels ice cold.
After, the storyteller asks everyone in the hotel and in the village, but nobody knows anything. On the day the storyteller leaves, the villagers see a carriage and through the windows, they see a dark gentleman with a strange nose, and a lady with her eyes closed.
    The storyteller wants help.

  24. Well, I chose the tale THE TELL-TALE HEART by Edgar Allan Poe because this author is one of my favorite and I love how he writes about madness, he talks about it in a singular way and he invites to see the madness like a beatiful way life.

    PRESENT SIMPLE:

This story talks about a young man who lives with an old man; the old man is always kind with the young man… But the old man has a “problem”: He has a horrible eye; his eye is cloudy like milk and the young man feels that the eye follows him every day.
The young man decides to do something with this annoying eye; he visits the old man’s bedroom every night. The octave night he sees that the old man is sleeping; the young man takes his lantern and he illuminates the old man’s eye but the old man is awake, he feels that evil is in his bedroom. The old man’s heart beats faster and faster and the young man is worried because of this sound and then the young man feels that this sound is overwhelming, now the young man has two problems: the cloudy eye and the noisy heart, for this reason he jumps over the old man and he kills him.
In the morning, three policemen visit the old man’s house and they ask about the old man, the young man says that the old man is in the town and he comes back in three weeks; the policemen look at the house and it is all in order, then the policemen decide to go to the police station but the young man invites them to take a cup of tea with him and the policemen accept.
The young man and the policemen talk about life and other topics, but the young man does not feel good because he hears the same sound, he tries to talk hard but the sound is harder than his voice, in this moment the young man decides to say goodbye but the policemen are very friendly and the sound is increasing. The young man blows up and he confesses all to the policemen.

This story starts 1690 and finishes fifty years later, in a small village names Castringham in the east of England. In this small village there are witch trials, because the people there think that some ladies are witches.
So there is a very important woman, her name is Mrs Mothersole, she is accused by a court because a story that a man name Sir Matthew Fell tells, Sir Matthew lives at Castringham Hall, it is a large country house with big gardens and many old trees, one tree is very tall and it is near to the house, because its branches almost touch the building.
Sir Matthew says that in three different evening, he sees Mrs Mothersole in his tree, she is with a knife and she is talking to herself, when she realizes that someone else was there, she just disappears and then the Sir listens an animal who walks around the house, one evening he chases the animal and he arrives to the Mrs Mothersole house.
The court believes in Sir Matthew’s story, so they kill her that night, before to die she say to him strange words of his house, some days later the housekeeper find Sir Matthew dies with black body, nobody understand that.
About fifty years later another people live in the same house, a man named Mr. Richard sleep in the same room that Sir Matthew, and the next morning the housekeeper find Mr. Richard dead with black body, the people are scared, because they see a white cat in the ash tree, then the white cat fell in the tree and then they listen how the cat screams. Everybody wants to know the mysterious of the tree so one man look inside the tree, and then a lot of big spiders go out the tree.
I like a lot this story because I love the witches stories, and for me it was very interesting, and also it was a good exercise because I learn new words and vocabulary.
