THE MAN WITH TWO SHADOWS

The tittle of the book that I chose is The Man with Two Shadows, It is written by Thomas Hood. The Characters are: I (an unknown man), George Mason: my wife’s cousin, my wife, Lettie: my sister, Harry: my brother and Vincent Grieve: the ship’s doctor.
The history is starting with George, He is a brave man, and he is loved of the sea.
Lettie is afraid when he told her, that he goes on a ship very very far, to the Arctic.
Harry likes painting, he is painting a picture of George before he leaves. Lettie is putting it on the wall in their sitting room.
Before the ship sails, George is meeting the ship’s doctor called Vincent Grieve.
After some days, they are having a dinner, but Vincent seems too unpleasant, he is sitting too close to Lettie and she is unhappy about it, His behavior is very strange about the George’s picture. He is feeling that the eyes’ picture are following him everywhere, he is looking very frightened.
But the most strange is that he is coming again with a note for Lettie from George for almost every day. He is saying Lettie that if anything happens to George, he would marry her.
Of course, she is very angry with him.
She isn’t saying something about it to George. He has to go and she is crying for hours.
I am looking the picture, the George’s face looks very white. I am trying to forget about it.
One year is passing, and in this spring is coming a beautiful warm evening, but suddenly, Lettie and I are feeling very cold in the room, during a beautiful spring! But Harry isn’t.
The face in the picture is looking like a dead man with no eyes.
I am sure that George is in some kind of trouble, when Harry sees the newspaper, he says that George is dead.
“George is out shooting with the ship’s doctor”.
We aren’t knowing how say it to Lettie, but she is listening everything, she is ill for many months about it.
After two months, the ship is arriving, and a day there is a knock at the door and I am looking at the picture, He is holding one finger up, he seems to be warning me, his face has blood on it, and in his finger there is a small moth.
At the door is Doctor Vincent. He says that they were out shooting on the ice, and suddenly, George fell. Doctor Vincent sees the picture and he screams loudly, he is frightened.
Later he leaves and then, Harry and I are noticing that this man has two shadows. Two days later he is coming and asking to Lettie to marry with him, but she was very angry, he is saying that George wanted it.
But suddenly George’s picture fell, cut and open his head.
At night a nurse is keeping him, but she is noticing something strange about his, the two shadows.
He is mad he is starting to say “I hit you with my gun because I loved her. I murdered you George”
Finally, he opened the window and threw himself out.
I liked this history, but is complicated to rewrite the history, when the main character didn’t give me his name, he tell the history in first person.

Valentine's day
ReplyDeleteValentine's day has its origins from the ancient Rome deast of lupercalia.
At those times the wolves were roaming the woods. So, the Romans were calling
upon their god, Lupercus. he was keeping the wolves away. the Festival was
holding on February 15th. it was being celebrated as a spring festival.
That calendar was different, springtime was falling on february.
Young people were holding one custom name drawing. they were writing the names
Roman girls on slips of paper and they were puting them into a jar. Each
man was taking a slip. the girl choosen is being his sweetheart for the year.
Valentine was a priest when christianity was getting force as a new religion.
for an Emperor order, Caludius II, Roman soldier wasn't geting married or
getting engaged. Claudius believes: "if Soldier are cheering with their
families, they are not fighting the wars". Valentines decided to ignore the law
and he was marring young couples secretly. but he was discovered, arrested
and put to death.
Valentine was beheaded on February 14th, after his death, people was calling
Valentine a saint. The feast was being translated from the 15th of February
to the 14th. now the Valentine's day is being vcelebrated instead of Lupercus.
I think this story is very interesting because you can learn something about
ancient history, many people don't have a clue why they celebrate Valentine's
day, so this is a very good opportunity to know the origin of that story.
We have to pay attention to the fact that every single thing in the world has
a story and it'd be nice if we know it.
The pied piper of Hamelin. (Present continuous)
ReplyDeleteLong time ago, in a little village, a strange event is happening. One night, the village people are eating and they are listening strange sounds out the houses. All the people are getting out home and they are seeing many mice. The mice are eating all the food of the village people, it is being a very bad situation because village people are not having food for eating, and therefore, they are having an assembly to solve that problem. The governing is getting an idea: he is going to pay one hundred gold coins to the person who is solving the mice problem.
Suddenly, a strange man is appearing and he is saying “the reward is going to be mine”. At night the strange man is telling to the village people he is being a piper, then, he is beginning to play the flute and the mice are beginning to leave their hiding places. The piper is walking around the village and all the mice are following him, he is leaving the village while he is playing the flute still. The piper is seeing a river and he is getting an idea, then, he is crossing the river and the mice are trying but they all are getting drowned.
Later the piper is returning to the village and he is demanding the reward but the village people are not going to give any reward because they are thinking the piper just is playing the flute and that is being very easy. The piper is getting so angry and he is getting a new idea. He is beginning to play the flute again but now the mice are not being who are following the piper, now are being the village children.
The piper is disappearing along with the village children and anybody is seeing them again.

He is banging my head on the stones of the road, he is killing me, and all my hate is going out with each bang! Onto the road, I am taking all my hate against him because I found him with another woman. After ten minutes I am a ghost
I am seeing to him and having a great idea, as I am a ghost I could follow him to everywhere that he wanted to go, I’d soon teach him. John is still looking in front of the dead body, and I am putting my face against him, but he didn’t seem to see it. He is going to walk through me and I am afraid, but why? I am a ghost.
He is beginning to walk into the dark street and then I begin to follow him. I want to scare him so I am shaking my hands, making an unhappy sound but he is smiling a little, he cannot see me and he is not afraid. When I am making some strange sounds and crying ¡Hoo, hoo! Someone throw open a top window and say “Who’s that? What’s the matter?” I think that the other people are listening to me but John doesn’t. I am thinking of making people pay for their actions, while people are saying to me “live him Millie, leave him before it is too late!” but I think ghost follow us as they like, do not they?
He is walking toward the police station, I think that he is going to the police to tell all about the crime that he did to me; but sudden a strange voice is telling me “What did you think, would happen?, now the death is on your head” and I am crying “I didn’t do it, I never wanted to hurt him…John still is seeing to me and a policeman say “that’s her”. A neighbour say “she was hitting to him with a heavy piece of iron till he died”. A policeman is saying too “poor girl she is like someone who has seen a ghost”

TWILIGHT

In the school she is knowing Eric, Mike, Jessica and Angela; they are becoming her new friends.
When Bella is in the cafe, she is seeing five students. They are felling attracted for her, because she is beautiful and pale. They are sitting far from all people. They are the siblings Cullen: Edward, Emmett, Jasper, Alice and Rosalie. Really they aren’t biological siblings.
Among them, Edward is who is winning the Bella´s attention. She is discovering that Edward is having a big strength and speed, because one day, Bella is close to die squashed for a car, then, Edward is saving her life when he is appearing close together, and very fast he is stopping the car with his hand. It is carrying Bella to suspect of him. One day one of her friends is inviting her to Push beach, she is deciding go and she is trying to carry Edward with her, but he isn’t accepting the invitation. In the beach, Bella is knowing Jacob Black, after that Bella is speaking with him, she is knowing that Edward is a vampire.
Between them (Bella and Edward) is arising a dangerous romance, because he is being a danger for her.
After some problems, Edward is preparing Bella for a unforgettable night,he is carrying her to school dance, and she is thinking that finally Edward is going to become her in vampire, but Edward isn’t wanting do it, because he isn’t wanting take her the life, although Bella only is wanting to be with him for ever.

Anna is frustrating because her boyfriend of many years still hasn’t proposed her, she is traveling to Dublin, Ireland and propose to her boyfriend Jeremy on February 29, leap day. According to Irish tradition, a man who is proposing on leap day must accept it. During the flight, a storm is diverting the plane to Cardiff. Anna hires a boat to take her. but the severity of the storm is forcingto land and put her in a shore on the Dingle there, she is hiring Declan for take her across the country to Dublin. Because of Anna they aren’t staying in the car and they losted it.
Declan doesn’t accept to drive Anna to Dublin,but he isn’t have money for saving his pub.finally he is agreeing to drive her. After that the are walking because a car’s accident and later they are spending the night in a house because a storm is strarting and they have to sleep together
After that, the keep walking and they have to go into a church and a couple is getting married, they decided to stay there.
The following day they are taking a bus to Berlín.. When they are arriving at Jeremy's hotel, Jeremy surprises her and proposes to her, and she doesn’t accept immediately, but she accepts.
Anna is retourning with Jeremy but she finds out that she is in love of Declan.
Anna is going back to Dingle, where Declan is successfully running his restaurant. She proposes to him and he vacillate but finally he accepts.

Live in a world surrounded of many things, could mean for most people the possibility to have a special position in the society, but others found the true meaning of life about little things, things like was telling stories around the fire, stories that come from our soul, making that the people feel happy or not, when they was listening our stories” just you and your voice to transform their lives” words only words in the Michael Jackson voice. That story was telling her life; in this autobiography he let us see his childhood, one day while he was rehearsing in his house, he was watching in the children that were playing in the park and he thought how was his life if he was playing with them, every day when he was coming home he thought in many things around his life.
In his childhood existed a song, it was a beautiful song, relating with friends.” We both found what we were looking for.” “Ben” this song was very important for Michael and today most people remember it. He was an interesting man, many were his successes, his awards, but more important was the role he played in charitable works helping children. Perhaps what most people remember the song “we are the world”, a song that was created by Michael and others artists and it was interpreting by nearly 45 artists; the main idea of that song was helping the children for the foundation USA for Africa. I could say about Michael, he was not only a singer; he was a special man because all the time he was thinking in the children. He was interested in their life; he was always thinking how he could help them. I chose this story because for me is very important remember the people that make the change in our world and the people that want day by day help others around the world.
Was very difficult to tell in 300 words the life of an artist but his life is summed up in a phrase "to live to help others".

The book was starting in the year 1863 with the narrator's uncle, Professor Liedenbrock, who was rushing into his house in Hamburg, Germany. Otto Liedenbrock was a professor at Johannaeum He was not a fast-talker, but was very capable at science. Axel his nephew was his laboratory assistant. One day, Liedenbrock was finding a remarkable book, In this book there was a parchment, but this parchement was writing in another langue, so Axel and his uncle were trying crack the key; after several hours they were finding the key, so they were realizing that this parchment was writing by Arne Saknussemm et he was giving directions to the Center of the Earth. Then Liedenbrock was excited and he was deciding to go to the Centre of the Earth. Days later they were traveling to Iceland, because in this place was Sneffels volcano, where they were beginning their search, In Iceland they were hiring a guide, the name was Hans; so then, they were walking to the volcano. The journey down to the center of the earth was beginning when they were finding the top of the crater, so they were starting to descend for the volcanic. But after be walking several meters, they were not having water and also they were walking on the wrong direction. After Axel was losing the consciousness and when he was awaking, they were finding a gigantic ocean, yonder, there were strange trees et animals, so they were building a raft and they were surfing for the ocean. Then when they were surfing they were seeing a fight between a crocodile and a snake, so they were escaping of them. Later they were arriving to an island, and there was the initials of Arne Saknussemm engraved on a rock. So they were entering to the cave and they were going to Italy.
THE PICTURE OF DORIN GRAY
ReplyDeleteThis is a book written by Oscar Wild, is a gothic terror book, and it is causing controversy by its thematic. There is a movie too.
Dorian Gray is starring, he is a beautiful young who lives in England, he has a friend called Basil Hallward, he is a painter really good and he is admiring Dorian. One day Basil decides to paint the portrait’s Dorian and the result is really surprising, because the Dorian face is looking really beautiful.
Basil has a friend named Henry Wotton he loves freedom and the life’s pleasures .So Basil introduces Dorian to his friend Henry.
Henry and Dorian are creating a great friendship, and Henry convinces Dorian the greatest pleasure is youth and beauty so Dorian is becoming obsessed and he wants always to have the same age of his portrait, but it is coming true. Initially it seems cool because all the people who is surrounding Dorian is older, but he is looking young still .But there is a problem for Dorian; his face on the portrait is seeming to age more and more , and it is like a kind of secret for him. One day his friend Basil is trying to discover it and Dorian kills him. Although Dorian is living in a bad way, he is spending money in women and parties and it doesn’t mind him.
Dorian is playing with feelings of the people around, and the portrait is remembering him all the bad things he is doing and Dorian seems make crazy about it. Now the situation is complaining, the people are no loving him more, and he realizes he is alone.
Finally he decides to end this situation: he destroys the portrait, he is destroying himself, and finally he dies.

I think this book is really interesting, for me, because it has all the things I like in a book, for example it has suspense, drama it is passionate.
I saw the movie too, but clearly I loved the book, although the movie has some new things interesting too.

One day, Liedenbrock is finding a remarkable book, In this book there is a parchment, but this parchement is writing in another langue, so Axel and his uncle are trying crack the key; after several hours they are finding the key, so they are realizing that this parchment is writing by Arne Saknussemm and he is giving directions to the Center of the Earth. Then Liedenbrock is excited and he is deciding to go to the Centre of the Earth. Days later they are traveling to Iceland, because in this place was Sneffels volcano, where they were beginning their search, In Iceland they were hiring a guide, the name is Hans; so then, they are walking to the volcano. The journey down to the center of the earth is beginning when they are finding the top of the crater, so they are starting to descend for the volcanic. But after be walking several meters, they are not havimg water and also they are walking on the wrong direction. After Axel is losing the consciousness and when he is awaking, they are finding a gigantic ocean, yonder, there are strange trees et animals, so they are building a raft and they are surfing for the ocean. Then when they are surfing they are seeing a fight between a crocodile and a snake, so they are escaping of them. Later they are arriving to an island, and there is the initials of Arne Saknussemm engraved on a rock. So they are entering to the cave and they are going to Italy.
I liked so much this story, because it always has unexpected situations.
PRESENT CONTINUOUS: actually mi tale doesn't have a name because it's an unpublished story , even it doesn't have a end yet. it's a murder tale, it's starting in a classroom at the high school in Jersey, students are doing a test and one of them named David is applying a hall pass to his teacher, and he obtain it. Three minutes after a bell ring at the school, the David's dead body is being found at the parking. Everyone in the school is afraid, and all of them are talking about bloody scene. Teacher is giving her class and she doesn't know anything. David's girlfriend is going out of the school when she sees filled the parking, she's approaching to crowd and suddenly she can see across a small hole the David's dead body, that is lying at the ground. she's seeing her honey, dead. she is going at shock. the teacher is going out class and sees the show, and when she sees who is the dead body, she's sad. Detectives is starting to question some suspects. Many student is saying about suicide, but the gun is next to David , david doesn't have gloves, and his footprints isn't at the gun. Teacher named Sandi, is narrating that she gives the hall pass to him and then she doesn't see him again. Everyone is imagining possible suspects. Anybody can explain the gun's scene, and the sad girlfriend can't belive that it is happening.

Dorian Gray was a handsome and innocent young man. He was Basil Hallward's friend. Hallward was painting a picture of Dorian. He was loving of Dorian´s beauty because he was thinking that beauty was inspiring his art. Hallward had another friend, he was Lord Henry Wotton. Dorian and Henry were meeting and they were talking about life and beauty. Dorian´s thinking was influencing by Henry´s words, so much that Dorian was changing his perspective on the world and he was wishing to be young forever in exchange of his own soul. When Basil was finishing the picture, the Dorian´s wish was making real.
In the coming days, Dorian was meeting with Sibyl Vane. She was an actress. They were planning their married. But, one night, she was acting so bad that Dorian leaved her. Then she was commiting suicide. It was the first time that the portrait changed. It was looking somehow crueler.
After, Dorian was living on a world of moral corruption. He was basing his behavior on a book that Henry gave him.Although years were passing and he was not growing old because Dorian´s age and evil was marking on the face of the portrait.
Eighteen years later, Basil was coming back to see Dorian. He was listening to people rumors about Dorian's wickedness. Basil was not believing in that. However, Dorian was showing the horrible portrait to Basil and he was telling him that was his own soul. Then Dorian was killing him. For eliminating the body, Dorian was blackmailing to another friend. He was the scientist Alan Campbell, who was commiting suicide some days later.
Then, Dorian was talking with Henry and he practically was admitting to murder Basil, but Henry only was laughing it off and did not believe him.
That night, Dorian returned home. He was deciding to be a good man. It was with the intention of the portrait was beautiful again. Nevertheless, the portrait was remaining same.Dorian was becoming furious and he was deciding to destroy the picture. For that, he was taking a knife and he stabed to the picture. The servants were afraid of a cry from the Dorian´s room. When they were inside of the room, they were seeing the beautiful picture of Dorian Gray and also, a horrible body on the floor whit a knife in his heart. Thanks of some rings, they could discovered the body was Dorian Gray.
...I think it is a great tale because it is a critique about moral corruption in society, as much to past as to present...

ReplyDeletePresent continuous: Santiago is a young man he is a keeper of sheep, one day he is sleeping on the grass and he has a dream, it show the place of a buried treasure in the pyramids of Egypt and he is thinking if he want to go there or if he prefer staying with his sheep and live a quiet life. Later he found a king that who told that the only true reason the life’s man is reaching his dreams and passions, the old king said that Santiago has to follow his personal legend; some days later Santiago decided to selling his sheep and go to Africa but when he is arriving, someone cheats him and steal all his gold, now he is lose in the streets. He star to think that it was a crazy thing goes to that place, but suddenly he found a job in a crystals shop and he is saving money for return home. After spending almost a year working in the shop, he can see that shop is successful and now he has the enough money but one day walking on the path, he decided to continue his search. He join to a group of people are traveling to desert, as the days pass he is listening his mind and his heart, because some days pass very slow and he understand what is the soul of the world and how he can used it. When the group is arriving to the oasis he could see a beautiful women and he fall in love at time to see her, the main reason of his travel at that place he has to find an alchemist, the alchemist is a person quiet and alone and when he found him he star thinking in the old king. Other day he decided to continue his trip but he has to talk with the women and he stars his travel with the alchemist, when they travel he is learning a lot of things and Santiago is becoming a wise and he learn to live for being happy. After a lot of adventures, dangerous and life lessons finally he is arriving to the pyramids when he realize that he is grateful for reaching their dreams. He is digging in the deep sand while a group of thieves hit him and force him to dig, finally he laugh of them because he now where is his treasure. The story end in the same place that it begin, Santiago is sitting under the tree, keep his sheep, and he dig on the grass and found a chest filled of gems and his next trip is going next the women he loves.

He is rending a small room on the top floor of a dark and ancient palace, the building belonged to a noble family but now, an old woman, Signora Lisbeth is renting its rooms to students at the University of Padua.
Giovanni’s room has a small window and every day he is looking at the garden by the window. each morning he is sitting in front of the window and he is looking the different and wonderful flowers and plants in the garden, but his favorite flower is the purple flower, that garden is of the famous doctor, Giacomo Rappaccini and he is tending that garden. People is saying he is using those plants to make strange kinds of medicine and He is living in a small brown house in the garden with his daughter, Beatrice, and Giovanni is interested in her, because he is in loving.
one day when he is looking Beatriz, she catch a purple flower and one of the drops of the plant is landing on the head of a tiny lizard crawling near the feet of Beatrice. in that moment the small animal is twisting violently, Then it moves no more, but Beatrice is not surprised and She is putting the flower in her hair when a butterfly is passing near of Beatrice but it fell to the ground dead, in that moment Beatriz realizes that Giovanni is looking her, so, he throws some flowers like a gift to her, so she is happy.
one day a Giovanni's friend is saying him that Rapaccini is a bad man, a bad scientific and he realizes that Giovanni is being the subject of one of Rappaccini’s experiments,, then Giovanni is talking with Beatriz about this situation and she is talking him that his father is mad and when she was a child he gave her a poison from de purple flowers and these flowers are poisonous so she is being poisonous like the purple flowers, so , when she is touching something (a thing or a person) she is producing the death of that thing or that person...
weeks later, Giovanni realizes he is having the same virus like Beatriz, so, he is poisoning all the things he touch, he is very afraid for this situation but his old friend obtains a poison with the cure, in that moment Giovanni is looking for Beatriz to give the poison too, because both of them are wanting to be "normal" again, but when Beatriz is drinking the poison she falls to the ground and She dies at the feet of her father and Giovanni. The poison had been too much a part of the young woman, so the medicine that destroyed the poison, destroyed her as well.
I liked this story because it is different and it has suspense ... I liked it.

This is the story of a boy, his name was Alex, he was living in a tiny town called Niedelbruck, this tiny town was very quiet and happy, one day a truck was arriving to the village, it stopped in a florist, and then a man was delivering a big box with cemetery land, that kind of land was good for orchids.
But that box was for another person, it was for an old man who had died a year ago and his name was Mr. Shuwert, so the woman who worked there, took care of the box since a member of Mr. Shuwert family collected it, so they kept it in the florist basement.
In that box was sleeping a monster, there was a vampire and she looked like a 15 years old girl. Suddenly she was waking up and she was hungry, so at that night she started to kill people for eating.
That night Alex who was 15 years old was playing with his video game, in the game he was a vampire destroyer, he was tired so stopped and when he was looking to the window he saw the real vampire and she saw him too. In that moment she was falling in love with him because he was a very handsome guy, so she started to attract him because she wanted to bite him, she thought he could be her soulmate.
After days all people were scary for the daily murders, they didn’t understand and they thought that maybe was an animal the murderer. One day Alex was accompanying his father to the mayor, when suddenly a voice in his mind was calling him to the florist, he followed the voice and entered to the basement, the vampire was waiting him. When he was looking her, he was hypnotized for her beautiful teeth and he wanted that she bite him, but he couldn’t because he remembered his family and he didn’t want to kill people. So when he was looking her, he with the first sunbeam burned her, when he was looking her he cried because he loved her too.

The story I am going to tell you, taking place in the ancient China:
The emperor’s palace is the most beautiful in the world, and this palace has the most beautiful things that you can imagine; one thing is the wonderful forest and in this forest is living a nightingale and every night a fisherman is “singing” with the bird, well, when the fisherman is not doing her job and I am saying it because the fisherman always is working.
The tourists, who are visiting the palace, always are saying:
The palace is beautiful but the most beautiful in this place is the nightingale.
The emperor, hear this, calls his lords-in-waiting and he is telling them:
I am talking and I want to know the nightingale.
The lords-in-waiting are looking the nightingale in the forest but all sounds that they hear, they think in the nightingale until they can see the bird. Then they are talking with the bird and they are telling it:
You are invited to the palace! Come with us tonight.
The nightingale is flying to the palace and it is singing her best songs, and the emperor can hear its songs and he is falling in love for this bird, and for this reason, the emperor is putting the bird in a cage because he want to hear its songs everyday but the bird can go out 2 times for day.
One day, the emperor have a surprise, the emperor of Japon sends a gift to the Chinese's emperor: an artificial nightingale but this bird can sing all day and it is glowing because this bird is covered all over with diamonds, rubies and sapphires.
When the nightingale sees this situation, the bird is deciding come back to the forest or stay with the emperor, but it decides go home. Few days later, the emperor is missing the real sing but is late because the real nightingale is flying to its real home and later everyone is forgiving the real nightingale.
After a year, the artificial nightingale has damage and the emperor is sick because he is losing his medicine: the nightingale's songs...

ReplyDeleteWell, I chose this story because last semester I could not read it. I think, this story is very interesting because it leaves a reflection on what really matters in our life.
The excercise is kind of difficult but it tests your grammar skills, etc.
